Russian Animation Festival
____
2016/2019
The former Soviet Union was, beyond classical cinema, one of the biggest producers of animations, a tradition that still lingers in contemporary Russia. Now, for the first time, the Russian Animation Festival presents 37 cartoons from 20 directors, made between 1950 and 2014. The project, under the curatorship of Luiz Gustavo Carvalho and Maria Vragova, is presented for the first time in Latin America.
Animation plays a major role in Russia's film history. The program of the Russian Animation Festival offers the Brazilian public a unique opportunity to get to know beautiful productions and important names from the universe of Russian literature and music. Every detail of the cartoons were created by high-level professionals, while the music brings compositions from leading composers from that country, such as Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Schnitke, and prominent Russian actors voice many of the characters.
The program also presents a retrospective of three great animators from the contemporary scene: Aleksandr Petrov, Yuri Norstein and Svetlana Filippova.
